SCP held an exchange with Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University on Post-Industrial City Transformation

On 23th September 2019, at the invitation of SCP Consultants Pte Ltd Director and President (china) Mr. Chen Qining, Dr. Xu Yunqing, Dr. Paola Pellegrini, Prof. Wang Rui and two researchers of University Research Centre for Urban and Environmental Studies (UES) from Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, visited the SCP Suzhou Changyuan Garden for an exchange on Post-Industrial City transformation research and discussion on future in-depth cooperation between the two parties.

The exchange discussed the characteristics, difficulties and application values of the related research in the transformation and upgrading of resource-based post-industrial cities and parks, in hope for more in-depth university-enterprise cooperation. During the meeting, Han Shiyan from SCP Suzhou office research center introduced SCP’s development, major projects implementation situation, and briefly presented the Ningxia Zhongwei industrial park planning project as the typical example of "Post-Industrial City/Park Transformation".

Dr. Xu Yunqing gave a detailed presentation of University Research Centre for Urban and Environmental Studies (UES), which is established in July 2019. The interdisciplinary research centre mainly consists of the Department of Urban Planning and Design and the Department of Health and Environmental Science, supported by the Department of China Studies, the Department of Civil Engineering and other departments. UES is dedicated to the study of effects on the economy, society, population and health brought by local development and urbanization in China. Currently, UES focuses on 12 key topics including Yangtze river delta integration, new urbanization and urban and rural development, smart cities and technology and so on. Prof. Wang Rui and Dr. Paola Pellegrini also explained their own research fields and the experiences of urban transformation in European and American countries.

The two parties briefly reviewed the visits and academic exchanges since the signing of the cooperation framework agreement in 2013, and both expressed the intention to deepen research cooperation. In addition to "Post-Industrial City Transformation", both parties will use their practical and academic advantages to explore potential cooperation on topics such as national spatial planning, development zones going-out strategy, urban renewal, smart city, etc. to integrate the resources and strength in research and practice of university-enterprise.

As a front-line practitioner of urban planning, SCP can further refine practical planning experiences and conduct better research and prediction on future urban development in virtue of the international-local academic platform of Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, to provide more high-quality and precise services for clients.
