Mr Chan Soo Sen

Mr Chan Soo Sen has been appointed as SCP Chairman at the SCP Board of Directors’ meeting on 19 Oct 2013. Mr Chan was appointed as Honorary President of Suzhou University-SCP Future City Institute (FCI) on 14 Sep 2012 to promote and strengthen the cooperation between Suzhou University and SCP. Prior to this, Mr Chan was CSSD CEO in 1994, then he was appointed as Parliamentary Secretary in 1997, promoted to Senior Parliamentary Secretary in May 2001 and Minister of State in Nov 2011. He had worked in the PMO, Ministries of Health, Education, Defense, Social Development and Sports, and Trade & Industry over the years. He was MP for East Coast GRC(1997-2005) and Joo Chiat SMC from 2006-2011.

He was awarded Columbo Plan and President's Scholarships in 1975 to study Mathematics in University of Oxford, United Kingdom. After graduation, he joined the Administrative Service in 1980.

In 1986, Mr Chan was awarded a Post Graduate Scholarship to study Management Science in University of Stanford USA . He graduated with a Master of Science degree in 1987.

As an Administrative Officer, Mr Chan served in the Ministries of Defence, Education and Home Affairs. He became the founding Executive Director of the Chinese Development Assistance Council (CDAC) in 1992, and then the 1st CEO of the China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park Development Co Ltd (CSSD) in1994. He was instrumental in starting up these two key projects.

Mr Chan was returned unopposed as one of the 6 MP for the East Coast GRC in 1997 General Election, elected MP for Joo Chiat Constituency in 2001 and 2006 General Elections. He retired from active politics after completing his term in May 2011.
